In this BTEC Level 2 Award, studied in Years 10 and 11, you will explore how mathematics is applied to various vocational areas, such as science and engineering. You will learn how mathematical concepts including geometry, measures, number and algebra are applied to real-life contexts.
Overview of units
The content is divided into broad topic areas:
Applications of number
Statistics and probability
Geometry and measure
There are no entry requirements for starting this course.
The course assessment includes two written pieces – Assignment 1 applies number, statistics and probability to a vocational setting, while Assignment 2 applies geometry, measure and algebra to an engineering problem.
Where you can go next
This course can lead to Level 3 qualifications at age 16–18. It provides a useful basis for further study, employment and training in a range of STEM areas, where applied mathematical skills are vital.
