This BTEC qualification allows you to learn about the diverse aspects of vehicle technology. You will experience working with a wide variety of vehicle types as you progress through the course. Areas covered include: health and safety, light vehicle maintenance, removing and refitting components, engine system principles, layout and operation of vehicle systems, wheel maintenance, tyres and steering and suspension systems. You will learn to apply your understanding to real-life workplace situations. There could also be an opportunity chance to participate in the college’s motorsport team, preparing vehicles for competitions such as sprints and navigational rallies.
Overview of units
The course content is built around a number of broad subject areas:
Vehicle electrical and electronic principles
Removal and refitting techniques
Vehicle maintenance techniques
Welding and assembly
5 GCSE’s or equivalent including Maths and English for Level 3 only
You will be assessed by completing a range of practical tasks and assignments set for each unit. These tasks will also test skills in wider areas such as maths, English and ICT. Your tutor will help you to prepare for these.

On completing this course, you could progress on to an apprenticeship, university course or full-time employment in a field related to vehicle technology.
