Hello all, firstly a big welcome back to all of our students after a well-earned half-term. However, there is no time to rest now with exam season and deadlines fast approaching! March is going to be a very busy month for staff and students with lots happening:

1st & 2nd March – Skills Show South West

Some of the team will be at Plymouth Pavillions next week for this annual event which attracts thousands of people from the Plymouth area every year. This is a really good opportunity for young people to look at potential colleges, apprenticeships and job opportunities in Plymouth and surrounding areas. If you are interested in attending, or want to know more, then have a look at their website http://skillssw.co.uk/

1st March – Work Experience Interviews

Students have been applying for work experience jobs with some of the major employers in Plymouth and the South West including Wrigleys, Babcock and many more.

2nd March – Mufti for World Book Day

Next Thursday is World Book Day, and for charity we are all dressing up as our favourite book characters. Can’t wait to see some of the outfits on show! (Don’t forget your £1)

4th March – PMG Apprentice Fair

Plymouth Manufacturing Group are hosting an event at Plymouth Guidhall which is all about Apprenticeships and opportunities for young people. We will have a stall and will be talking to people all about UTC’s and the curriculum we offer. Again, if you are interested in this event then have a look at their website http://mypmg.co.uk/Events/

6th – 17th March – Mock Exams

Students are working extremely hard in preparation for the mock exam, I am really proud to see how determined students are to do well in their exams. You can see the students exam timetable here.
18th March – Open Day

We are hosting an Open Day on Saturday the 18th. We plan to have drones, robotics, machinery, science experiments and all kinds of exciting things on show for visitors. If you are interested in attending then please register online at www.utcplymouth.org/register

20th – 24th March – Work Experience Week

As mentioned previously, students will be gearing up for their interviews next week. Between the 20th and 24th they will actually be going to their work experience placements.

29th March – EES Competition

A group of year 12’s will be competing in a National competition where they design and create a ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) and then they give a presentation about their vehicle. The vehicle that our students are creating is an underwater vehicle, made using our 3D printers within the school. If they win their local heat at Plymouth University on the 29th, it would lead to the group going to London and competing on a national level!

This Week

Police Visit – Devon police came in to the school today to give a talk on transport safety. This was very informative and with recent weather very vital to ensure our students are educated on safety whilst travelling.

SEN Coffee Morning – We hosted a coffee morning for SEND parents to come and talk about the support me offer to our students in need of support. It was a great success with parents and teachers gaining a further understanding in the best ways we can support those who need it.

Thank you for reading
