As you may be aware, this week people from around the world celebrated International Women’s Day. A few of the UTC girls celebrated by meeting together at lunch to discuss inspiring women, watch some influential videos and talk about their own struggles with gender roles.
Last Saturday we were in Plymouth Guildhall talking to the public about everything UTC Plymouth does and what we have to offer for young people. It was a great success and me and the team enjoyed being a part of the event.
Pete, our Head of Key Stage 5, and Ryan, our Marketing Intern, enjoyed a day building catapults on Monday as part of the Plymouth City Youth Council meeting held at Civic Centre. They were showing young people how to be engineers by building catapults from lollipop sticks and flinging LEGO men over a high jump! From what I hear our stall was the most popular and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
Andy, who is an artist working on our garden project, gave an inspirational assembly today all about working hard, being prepared and the importance of social responsibility. He read poems, of which one he created himself, regarding littering and social responsibility and then he spoke from about the importance of preparation, especially as the students are taking their mocks at the moment. Thanks, Andy!
We are well into our two weeks of mock exams, and so far everything has gone smoothly and students are working hard to ensure they achieve their desired grades. Only one week to go so keep up the hard work!
Our EES team are working extremely hard to get their report and presentation ready for the end of the month. Annabel, Gareth and Clarissa are going to present their ROV at Plymouth University at the end of the month with the hope to go to the National finals in London.
Student of the Week
This week is Wade Perrin for his excellent effort in his Speaking and Listening English mock exam. Well done Wade, keep up the hard work!
Open Day Next Weekend!
A reminder that our Open Day is next Saturday (18th) from 10 am until 2 pm. We have a lot planned for the day including workshops in all departments, drones and RC’s, and free food and freebies! If you are free then come along to talk the UTC team. We have advertisements all over Plymouth so keep an eye out for us!
