Today students are taking over our Principal's Blog. Hi from Gareth, Nicola and Adam!

Today on Student Takeover Day, the teachers and staff at UTC Plymouth were allowed to put their feet up and let the students take some responsibility. Teachers stood down from their whiteboards and let their pupils pick up the pens, leading their fellow students in class activities and revision sessions.
In addition, the Student Leadership Team assumed the role of principal. Nicola Perry our head girl, Gareth Grech the Head Boy and Adam Ingleheart the Deputy Head Boy have filled the Senior Leadership Team’s boots. From leading lessons in their respective A-Level subjects to assessing student’s behavior in lessons. Students shared their views with us and we carried their views and concerns to the Senior Leadership Team. Changes will hopefully then be implemented in the next few weeks allowing the students to have more of a voice in the UTC community.

A touching assembly was held today. Siobhan Mackie and Elliott Beddoe gave the school an insight into the children in need charity and what they do. Needless to say today’s mufti day was very successful and created a lot of money for the charity.
When I go home today, I will go home with a lot more respect for the students in year 10 and 11, after hearing their views on their education here at UTC, how they want to see the school change for the better and how much they appreciate the staff here, I realize how much the school means to some students and personally it means a lot to me and the rest of student leadership.

Children in Need

As well as our student takeover, we have been raising money for BBC’s Children in Need. Today the students and staff came into school in mufti with the aim to raise money for this excellent fundraising event. If you wish to donate then please click the link

HMS Bristol

Last week a group of year 10 students enjoyed a field trip to Portsmouth and lived on HMS Bristol for a week. They were joined by other UTC colleges as they spent a week looking at a variety of Naval ships, their systems and conditions. They all took part in a variety of tasks and projects which included looking at the engineering of weapons, air engineering, survival equipment, electrical engineering and loads more! Next week a group of our Year 12’s will be staying on HMS Bristol to partake in similar activities.
