UTC Plymouth continues to develop young people for the work place and or higher education. I had the pleasure of talking to each of our Year 10 students to get their perspective on college life. Great to get student feedback, both positive and how we can improve.
Christmas came early at UTC Plymouth – following on from our successful joint CPD, we launched our new Effective Learning Points and all our Year 10 students got a gift to help them improve their presentation: a pencil case with all you need to ensure we have the best books.
Yesterday was a difficult day for one of our students, Lowena. but with her permission I would like to share her story. It was the anniversary of Lowena’s Mum passing and she asked if she could make a flower for her resting place. As you can see, she produced a brilliant piece of welding in honour of her Mum. I am so proud of her showing such reliance in attending college on what is the most difficult day and producing such a work of art!
This is where hard work and resilience can pay off. Great news from our Year 12 student Riley Light who has passed his medical and interview for the Marines on Thursday; he’ll be starting in April! Great job Riley we know you will be very successful!
Christmas Jumper day
What a fab turnout with staff and students in their Christmas Jumpers! You can’t beat a bit of Christmas cheer!
Excellent mentoring morning. Peter Bragg, our Careers Lead, smashing it out of the park with Gatsby Benchmarks! Our third meeting for students with the mentors – big thank you to colleagues from Babcock and Royal Navy.
Year 13 Visit
Today our year 13 students had the opportunity to visit the ‘Fab Lab’ at Plymouth College of Art; where art blends with design and engineering. It is a very creative and innovative space where prototypes are developed through high-end technology and equipment. Look forward to some more partnership working as we endeavour to put the ‘A’ in STEM!
A really big thank you to Jess, our chef, who cooked and served an amazing Christmas Lunch today! Lovely atmosphere in college today as we get into the Christmas spirit!
Another big thank you to Andy McCarron who left us last year to start training as a Chemistry teacher at our local secondary college, Stoke Dameral. Last year the tree made quite an impact as it has this year. #christmas@utcplymouth
One week to go!
We are gearing up at college in preparation for our STEAM presentations next week and look forward to seeing all our parents on Thursday 20th at 1.00 pm for mince pies and a look at what our students having been learning about this year!
Have a great Christmas shopping weekend and stay warm as the temperatures drop.
