This week is our final week before we finish for the Christmas holidays!
Students have been rehearsing for our Christmas STEAM Presentation to friends and family. As I write, and as our year 10’s are perfecting their presentation styles and power points, it truly is amazing seeing these young people grow in confidence. I have a plan to really show of their skills next year; maybe involving a trip to London. Great job from our new VP Jo on developing oracy in the college!
This week we celebrated incredible success with our CCF earning their stripes! It was a real honour to present these to each of our CCF Members. Look how smart they look! #dedication
As the weather gets better in Spring 2019, we have lots of outdoor events and courses that our CCF will have opportunities to take part in. Having a CCF has really supported our values and developed the leadership skills that our employers really want to see in young people. Great job and a big thank you to Pete Messenger, Simon and Jasmin for all the hard work and #dedication.
Students were over the moon with the lovely donation from Karen Stears at DHSB. Karen stopped by this week to talk about Oracy with our Oracy lead, Jo Ware and seeing our students and their activities, she had lots of Lego at home not being use. Well it certainly is now. #veryhappySimon!!
Our mufti day on Wednesday raised an amazing £113 for our chosen charity, Bowel Cancer West. So we look forward to sending the money for this worthwhile charity. Well done everyone!

The festive season in full flow, but sadly 42,000 people may not be here next year because of #bowelcancer. Launching our #LoveYourBum ️ campaign to raise awareness + vital funds and enabling you to have some cheeky, festive fun!
University of Plymouth Maths Open Day
6 of our Year 10 students spent a day at University of Plymouth finding out about university life and what it’s like to study Maths. Cat Clarke, our Maths teacher and Women in Stem lead, said it was a really great day and made the students think about the possibilities.
Finally, I have some great news regarding our development as a UTC. You may have noticed that we are consulting on taking Year 7 in 2020. Woo hoo!, we can’t wait. Any Year 5’s thinking about a new school? Come and visit one of our events in 2019! Don’t forget we are taking students for Year 9, 10 and 12 in 2019.
To all the readers of the Blog, thank you for reading. Looking back over the last term, we’ve had some amazing events, activities and stories at UTC Plymouth. Students are infectious with enthusiasm about their education here and we have a great team of teachers so come and see why everyone is talking about the UTC!
Really look forward to more incredibleness in 2019 and as reminder please Save the Date!
Warm Christmas wishes to you all and see you in the New Year!
