What a busy week as we really get going!

As part of industry partners month, we have visits planned from our partners and this week Steve Gerry stopped by. Steve is the secretary of the Plymouth Manufacturers Group and a longtime supporter of UTC Plymouth. Steve met with our Chair of Governors, Nick Buckland and the CEO of Reach South, Dean Ashton. We had a tour around the site where Steve was impressed with our Year 10’s professionalism during the Vehicle Technology lesson. More visits to follow as we love to show off our amazing students and staff.

Competition Time

This week was the launch of our full activities programme and competitions.

We have 14 students signed up for:

ROYAL NAVY ENGINEERING CHALLENGE 2019 (RNEC 19) EXERCISE DOWNBIRD RECOVERY. The hard work starts now in designing and making.

Remote Control Car Club was in full swing this week – with students involved an Autonomous Boat Competition. We had a visit from Conor of MSUBS http://www.msubs.com/ who design underwater equipment and vessels. It’s great seeing students working until 5.00 pm and a big thank you to Simon, their teacher and mentor, for leading on this project.

Meanwhile, you may see some UTC Plymouth ‘Smurfs’ in the water this week as Amelia and Charlotte in Year 12 have volunteered to race in outfits for the Annual Cardboard Boat Race. If you want to see our team we will be at Commercial Quay on the Barbican from 10.00 am on Saturday 15th September and tickets can be obtained from:

  • Letters have gone out for our Year 10 students to sign up for Royal Navy Taster week (8 places available)
  • Also letters for our trip to La Rochelle in June 2019

Thank you to all students who have volunteered for our Student Improvement Group. It was an excellent meeting and students were able to input some changes to improve the college. One of the items was around early arrivals having access to food –  From today we have opened the kitchen from 8.00 – 8.30 for breakfast and hot drinks.

Thanks for reading and have a great weekend
