Welcome to the Principals Blog Week 2
Welcome back to the Principals blog for the end of yet another AMAZING week here at UTC Plymouth. There have been laughs, cries, successes and failures – but that is exactly how life works, and that is exactly what we celebrate here.
Part of our ethos is preparing our students for work. Be it an apprenticeship at Princess Yachts or Babcock, a submariner with the Royal Navy or perhaps a programmer for Rittal. Whatever path our students choose, we are always there to support them and guide them in every way. So that is why this week, I would like to show off my new team of staff. This is the group of very hard-working individuals who make it all happen at UTC Plymouth.
With so many new students joining our family here at UTC Plymouth, it is only right to give our new staff the welcome that they deserve. So without further ado, and in no particular order, I would like to welcome….
Industry Placement Student
Megan is from Bournemouth Uni and studies Product Design. She is an ex-UTC student and is with us this year to support us in our Art sessions with Years 9, 10 & 11.
Teacher of Computer Science
Scott is our new Computer Science teacher with a wealth of experience in industry with the NHS as well as education. Away from education, Scott is a keen sportsman playing rugby for a local club within the city.
Head of Sixth Form & Maths Teacher
Neil has been teaching for over 20 years with the majority of that time spent as a head of year and Maths teacher over in Cornwall. His outside loves are most sports, walking, music, socialising and the grand children.
Kerry has joined our ever-busy admin team here at UTC. When she’s not crunching data, she’s enjoying a little bit of Robbie & Gary. Let’s Pray that she knows that Plymouth has Eight Letters. It’s Beautiful to have her with us.
PE & Engineering Teacher
Kelly has 14 years teaching experience and has worked in many Secondary schools in and around the City. She is looking forward to introducing lots of exercise and fitness activities to the school programme.
Justine has taught in secondary education for 20 years within within English & Creative Industries and is passionate about ensuring that young people have the right skills and qualifications.
Head of Key Stage 4 & English Teacher
Gemma joins our growing team within our Key Stage 4 Pastoral team alongside her role in English. She is passionate about our STEAM curriculum and is very excited to be part of our growing family!
Damien has worked previously as an engineering fabrication Project Manager. he has a degree in Motorsport Engineering and is very excited about being able to get his hands dirty, quite literally, once again.
He’s back! Andy worked for us previously as a Science Teacher and left to spend a year at another school gaining additional qualifications. He is now back and we are really proud to have him with us once again.
And that’s the new staff! These wonderful, hard working individuals are part of the heart beat of UTC Plymouth and fundamentally, what makes the school tick with a regular and consistent beat.
This is what we are built on and I am just so proud of what we are achieving here on an hourly basis. The journey to get here has been long and at times, somewhat dark but we have achieved so much and our success and growth are now speaking for themselves.
It’s just a matter of time now until everybody in Plymouth is talking about how amazing our College is. And quite right too!
Thank you for reading! See you soon!
