Principals Blog, Week 25 of 2019
Every day I am impressed by our Staff and young people. This week in particular has shown the strength of our student voice in articulating areas for improvement also our staff being able to critically look at their own practise and adjust accordingly. Well done this week for being reflecting, enlightened and dedicated. Once again our values shine through!
A big thank you to Saltash.net for inviting us in to be part of their careers fair. It is great to see a mainstream school with a positive approach that allows young people to receive unbiased careers advice. Pete and I met some wonderful people and it’s really important to have these events to share what’s on offer across Plymouth.
Lovely to have a visit from our colleagues at the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, we hosted their Annual AGM at UTC this week. Huge thanks you to my staff again for going above and beyond in welcoming the Institute.
MUGA (Multi Use Games Area)
One of our aims, as we grow, is to develop our sports facilities. We have been obtaining quotes in for a brand new MUGA. As you can see from the picture, it would really help to offer a wide range of Sports to our students. After Easter we will be working across the college to develop a fund raising strategy to absolutely make this happen ASAP. So watch this space and if anyone has any great ideas – please get in touch or see me!
Royal Navy Challenge
It’s almost upon as again and both staff and students have been working incredibly hard to do their last minute preparations for the competition. We have 3 teams off to Portsmouth next week with all their hard last night fuelled by pizza!
Oracy is a key part of our curriculum and one that students welcome in terms of giving them the opportunity to build their confidence. Jo Ware has done an immense job in developing this theme for the UTC and is incredibly passionate about it. This was validated in our review and Quality Assurance visit by Karen Stears, DHSB and Maria Anderson, Elburton Primary School.
Pete at Buckingham palace
Great to post about Peter Bragg who proudly accompanied his dad David Bragg to receive his OBE at Buckingham Palace this week. Pete you look very well coiffured if I may say!
The end of Spring Term is just round the corner and we are looking forward to presenting our ‘Good Egg’ Awards to those students who really embody the UTC spirit and values.
Join us on 5th April at 2 pm for tea and hot cross buns.
Tomorrow is our big Spring Open Day – we are looking forward to welcoming families to our college to find out what we can offer. Part of our STEM-focused curriculum includes industry visits, work experience and real life projects. Above, our Year 12 Students on a visit to Rittal, one of our Industry Partners.
Remember doors open at 10 am! Bacon baps at the ready, see you there!
