Principals Blog, Week 27 of 2019
Our Spring term has flown by and it has been great to celebrate student’s achievements this week. However first I would like to thank all our staff for their hard work, dedication and passion in, not only teaching students, but all the other things that make UTC Plymouth so special. I hope you all have a relaxing Easter break and recharge your batteries ready for an action packed Summer Term (It really is!!)
We rewarded our Year 10 students this week who have consistently gained golden time each week. This shows that they uphold the UTC Plymouth values in all aspects of college life. The least we could do was order some pizza!
A great job and keep going with all your efforts to:
Callum, Billy, David, Dan, Cameron, Ryan, Guy, Matt, Callum, Dylan, Jude, Charles, Luke, Sam and Will
Our CCF Cadets took to the great outdoors this week to hone their teamwork skills with a variety of activities that included putting up and dismantling a tent.
Putting up a tent is not just a time to check for faults, but it’s also a great time to plan, learn and ensure you haven’t forgotten anything. It is also vital to be able to communicate effectively to ensure that the task is completed. Cadets develop leadership skills by means of training to promote the qualities of responsibility, self reliance, resourcefulness, endurance and perseverance, which is in line with our own Core Values of professionalism, respect, discipline, dedication and resilience.
This week, students and their mentors were tasked with a scenario of looking at a job application and preparing for how they would apply for it. Great to see our employers unpicking the language of an application form and preparing students for this challenging task. Again, Pete Bragg, our employer engagement lead, continues to push our students towards excellent outcomes. This is why we are so different!
Good Eggs Rewards Celebration
Our final day was all about celebrating success, brilliant oracy skills used by our students and a thank you to all staff for their nominations and for our VP Jo Ware for ‘part planning’ yet again!
Don’t forget, we return for the start of term for all staff & students on Tuesday 23rd April.
On a personal note, next week is a big day in my life as I am getting married to the love of my life, Nick! He hates pictures so here he is as a bitmoji! Hopefully some real ones to share with you after Easter.
Thanks for reading and have a great Easter
