Last week before half term and I am really proud to report that we have had brilliant behaviour from our students! They have really lived up to our values of:
Goosewell Primary School had their final STEM Session with us this week – a trip to Devonport Dockyard and a tour visiting three Type 23 frigates was in order. A big thank you to Babcock and our Royal Navy liaison, L.Cdr Paul Youngman; our students were buzzing meeting real engineers!
This week our Combined Cadet Force crew undertook their swimming tests at HMS Drake in Devonport. The cadets were required to swim two full lengths of the pool and then tread water for a full three minutes.
I met up with a big supporter of our college this week, our MP Luke Pollard. Luke was chairing a round table meeting for head teachers in his constituency. It’s great that Luke is involved and interested in our students and their outcomes across the city.
Also I will be out tonight with another big supporter of the UTC, our friends at PMG, (Plymouth Manufacturing Group) have their Evening Ball to celebrate 40 years of the organisation. This year their charity is St Luke’s and UTC are happy to support this amazing charity – St. Luke’s care for people with serious illnesses such as cancer, motor neurone disease, heart failure amongst other serious illnesses, treating any adult over the age of 18. They have been providing specialist, end of life care and support for over 35 years .
A big thank you to all our year 10 parents for coming to parent evening yesterday and for their lovely positive comments! We really appreciate your support.
Big congratulations to Sophie Carpenter on her up-coming marriage to Ben Wood. Funny that she will go from being a Carpenter to a Wood after half term!
Next week, whilst most teachers are on half term – Jasmin Chapple and Simon Pykett are off to Dartmouth Naval College to complete their training for our CCF – don’t forget to send us pics guys!
Today all our teaching and learning staff are in their first Visible Learning session – so excited that this has finally started! It’s our aim this year to ensure all our students are independent, visible learners!
Why we are different
Interviews for young Devon – a big thank you to Dan and David in Year 10 who were part of the interview panel for Counsellor interviews that took place for young Devon this week!
Finally I hope you all have a restful half term and we see some rested students ready for more challenges and fun on our first day back which is Monday October 29th!
Thanks for reading and have a great weekend
