About the Course

This is a one year course with the option to progress on to a second year to build a qualification equivalent to three A’Levels.
It is ideal for students wanting to get into engineering, either through Higher Education or an Apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements

You will need to have a minimum of Grade 3 in maths, English and Science. A Level 2 qualification in an Engineering or Design and
Technology subject would be an advantage.

You will need to have a minimum of Grade 4 in maths, English and Science. A Level 1 qualification in an Engineering or Design and
Technology subject would be an advantage.

You will study the following qualifications:
• GCSE Mathematics
• GCSE English
• EAL Level 2 in Engineering Technology comprising of units in applied maths, physics, milling and grinding techniques and welding.

You will also have a focused placement of Work Experience for two days a week with one of our Employer Partners. For many of our students, this has become an offer of an apprenticeship at the end of the course.

In Year 1 you will study the following units to make up a Foundation Diploma:
• Engineering Principles
• Delivery of Engineering Processes Safely as a Team
• Engineering Product Design and Manufacture
• Applied Commercial and Quality Principles in Engineering
• Welding Technology
• Computer Aided Design in Engineering
